Johan is a food and drink stylist working in a variety of fields including advertising, TVC's, stills, packaging, cookbooks and film.

Originally from South Africa, Johan travelled around the globe working as a chef and became highly regarded in the culinary world. He worked under Michel Roux Sr. at the Waterside Inn before moving to The Ivy in London. It was at Cafe Paradiso, Cork, where he honed his creativity to deliver an award-winning eating experience in the underserved vegetarian sector. He quickly became head chef there and achieved his Culinary Arts Degree from University College Cork. In Vancouver he worked at Glowbal before making the move to food styling. Johan was also teacher at Dublin Cookery School and the world famous Ballymaloe Cookery School.

Johan's years as a professional chef have given him a unique skill set and understanding of how food should look and how to achieve that through the lens. His vast knowledge of food allows him to adapt to any brief and enables him to think on his feet in the fast past advertising world. He has experience working on sets with one client to big productions with 100's of people around, always keeping a calm composure.

Now based and working in Ireland, he also works in the UK and Europe.

In 2020 Johan’s work was shortlisted for The Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year Awards in the Food Stylist Category.
